  • Haydale is a specialist in the use of graphene and other composites

  • Graphene in one atom thick and has fantastic thermal and electricity conduction and strengthening properties

  • Haydale has focused on resins, polymers and composites and other advanced materials, including silicon carbon whiskers and inks.

How is doing?

Graphene use is still in its infancy and Haydale Graphene Industries PLC (LON:HAYD) is still building up commercial sales.

In July, it reported that the last few months had been challenging with costs slightly higher than expected while R&D tax credits have taken longer than expected to come through.

Even so, the Company continues to be sufficiently funded and with a new global sales team in place, the year has started with a renewed focus and cautious optimism, said the statement.

Haydale highlighted its contribution to the new BAC Mono R, which made its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The light-weight BAC Mono R body was built using Haydale's graphene-enhanced carbon composite materials.

Haydale Graphene is also a core tier one partner at the £60mln Graphene Engineering Innovation Centre (GEIC) at the University of Manchester.

The graphene and composite materials specialist lost £3.5mln (£2.67mln) in the six months to December on sales of £1.6mln (£2mln).

What the boss says

Keith Broadbent, Haydale’s chief executive, said: "The installation of the HT60 reactor at the GEIC is a significant step for the commercialisation of graphene.”

Inflexion points

  • More commercial orders
  • Graphene use picks up as number of applications rises
  • Company raised £5.8mln through placing and open offer in February/March
  • Keith Broadbent and other directors invested £200,000 in placing
